Dennis R. Hill
Hillusionism

Hillusionism is a new style of painting originated by Dennis R. Hill where the background components and colors are based on reality, but are presented in a smooth dream-like manner becoming only suggestive of the subjects they represent.  An object or figure is presented as an integral part of the overall composition, but in a realistic manner, which is in striking contrast to the rest of the painting.  This technique implies that the subjects are immersed in their environments, but those environments are mysterious illusions grander than what can ever be understood.

Moonlight Sonata - 36 x 24 oil on canvas
(Lyrics)
Yesterday, yesterday,
my heart’s sorrow flew away.
Tender love, silent eyes.
Let’s drink our love until day.

Moonlight.  Young love.
Touch now my soul.
Please say to me we will embrace tonight.
Moonlight love, warm my heart with your sight.
Be gone loneliness.
I love you. I love you.
Please hold me. Please kiss me.

We are one.
We are one.
We are one.

Come with me. Come with me.
Love’s the heart’s fire of life.
Treasured love.  Quiet eyes.
Come we’ll share our candlelight.

Moonlight.  Young love.
Touch now my soul.
Dream free.  Let us fly to the stars,
while the Earth sleeps below.

Moonlight love.
Moonlight love.
Moonlight love.
Moonlight love.

Gift of the Smoke Spirit – 40 x 30 oil on canvas  (Progenitor of Hillusionism)

One evening when the festive court assembled for a meal
the Smoke Spirit left a sapphire stone in recognition of love’s appeal.
The people gathered around the gem as it rested in a bowl
and their greed became so sinister it was beyond each one’s control.
Mia thought it was a gift for her; she was the most beautiful, of course.
Count Rolf thought it was meant for him to buy a champion horse.
Ann’s jealousy churned her blood. She believed herself deserving.
She always showed The Count respect and it was him she was just then serving.
Baron Roy felt it was finally time he was rewarded for his labor,
and frowned coldly at the pretentious count with a hand upon his saber.
The Smoke Spirit saw their envy grow and judged each one a fool,
so, she bid the nearby fire to blaze and incinerate the jewel.

American Heart – 36 x 24 oil on canvas

How does the vitality of a great nation evolve?
What embryo begins growing as miraculous art?
Who were the people who imagined a world
that sprang from aspiring genius and heart?
Centuries of governance rose and collapsed
while the people struggled to barely survive.
Centuries of hardship, war, and disease
until we imagined a way we could thrive.
Freedom to learn, to decide as one mind,
the chance to contribute one’s part,
became the solution to the harsh fists of despots,
and built the original American Heart.

Pink Sailing – 18 x 24 oil on canvas

The sky screams and the sea rolls as we calmly sail through life’s mysteries.
Our wings glow pink and point towards the sun, while guiding us to and through the future.
Let me grasp your waist as we face the breeze and smile thoughts of joy.
We know such a day will never end.  We know as we ride, as we glide, that life above
and life in the deep glide with us because we are whole, one breathing entity,
one beating heart, one conscious thought.

Into the Sun - 24 x 18
Into the Sun – 18 x 24 oil on canvas

Into the sun I soar with my jetfighter wings swooped back.
I glide through the fluid air and swim through the clouds.
Up, down, into a roll, I spin in ecstasy.
Come with me, plodding human.  Shed that weight and taste freedom.
When in the air, we’ll snack on insects, and when on the ground: worms.
Such a life, where everything is free!  And so, we will be.

Worry Wash – 24 x 36 oil on canvas

My mind is flooded with turmoil.
The activities of the day scream and clash in a violent collage.
But, when I walk out into nature and discover humanities origin,
my worries wash away in the great cleansing wind that sweeps across the hills.
How foolish, was I, to fret about the details and petty conflicts that earlier tore at my sanity.
Mother Nature, I am back.  Don’t let me forget your truth and love.

Fem Botanica – 18 x 24 oil on canvas

I walk among Nature’s colors, her aroma’s, her grace,
and I know that I am a part of her miracle;
a part of the breaths of today and the dreams of tomorrow.
The breeze entwines me with her sanguine whispers.
I am assured of a bright future;
we are ensured that her heart will beat for us as long as we love her.
Close your eye again my great mistress, once again it has become evening
and you and I must rest before preparing for a new day.

Lady Lena in a Yellow Dress
Lady Lena in a Yellow Dress – 24 x 18   oil on canvas
Lay Lena, Lady Lena all dressed in yellow
do you smile because you know you glow so very bright?
Do you lounge throughout the day in folds of satin
only to catch each ray of complimentary sunlight?

Do passersby peek into windows just to see you?
Do your servants comb your hair and buff your polished scarlet nails?
Do you eat pastries with dainty lips kept soft for kissing,
and rest on couches with fluffy pillows for what they avail?

These things are true and give me reasons to adore you.
Rise from your couch and honor me with a Viennese waltz.
We’ll spin through our rooms and through our lives close together
embracing tightly and laughing gaily at each other’s faults.
