This painting is the fourth of
a series of French Peasants inspired by the great master William
Bouguereau. His life size paintings of traditionally painted French
peasant girls were very popular in the late 1800's and can be found in the
best art museums of today. Dennis is placing the traditional subjects into
impressionistically painted rural and village scenes, where they may have
been found at their work and leisure. He is naming the girls to make the
paintings seem more personal and he hopes that they might remind the
veiwer of Bouguereau's solemn and beautiful subjects.
